HOMICIDE detectives will pursue Peter Dupas over three murders he is suspected of committing.

It is believed that after taking a two-week break following yesterday's sentencing of Dupas for the Mersina Halvagis murder, detectives will cast a fresh eye on the unsolved murders of three women.

Helen McMahon, 47, was murdered while sunbathing on a beach at Rye on February 13, 1985.

Renita Brunton, 31, was stabbed to death in her used clothing shop in Sunbury on November 11, 1993.

Kathleen Downes, 95, was stabbed to death in her Brunswick nursing home, not far from where Dupas lived at the time, on December 31, 1997.

Dupas is the prime suspect in the murder of all three women.

"We'll be taking a well-earned break and when we return, we will be looking afresh at the files for those three murders," a senior investigator said yesterday. -- DAN OAKES
