Robber Pleads Guilty To Ram Raid

A VAN used by three men to ram raid a Boolaroo bicycle shop became bogged in thick mud at the Westfield Kotara building site, Newcastle District Court was told yesterday.
The men abandoned the stolen van, transferred the stolen goods to a tip truck and drove off. Police saw the stolen truck in Windale soon after. The truck failed to negotiate a roundabout and the men, including William John Apps, jumped out. Apps, covered in mud, was found beneath a house.Police found denim, motocross clothing with price tags attached and a bicycle inside the truck.The truck was damaged and an insurance company is seeking $15,563 compensation. Apps, 19, of Kambora Close, Windale, pleaded guilty to breaking, entering and stealing on June 11 last year while in company. He asked that an offence of being carried in a vehicle taken without the owner's consent be considered on sentence.Judge Ralph Coolahan will sentence Apps on April 18. He continued bail.
