IT is difficult to imagine this glam trackside frock having its origins in a Samaritans clothing bin.

But that is where Clair Twaddle found it.

She was among a group of Hunter Institute of TAFE fashion students involved in yesterday's judging of Bin Fashion 2 In Fashion.

Students selected garments from clothing bins and transformed them with modern designs.

Categories included a day at the races, cocktails at dusk, visionary and streetwear.

Ms Twaddle, 19, saw potential in a brown skirt and spent a week changing it to a dress.

"The skirt had pleats and it had a good structured shape," she said.

"I took the buttons off and just relied on the zip to hold the dress up.

"I then cinched the dress in the waist with purple and orange ribbon and elastic."

Ribbon was used to make roses for the bust and base of the dress.

Designers Lindsay Otto, Juliana Foong and Time Neve were on the judging panel.

Forty finalists will feature in the Gala Bin Fashion 2 In Fashion parade and dinner set for July 29 at Western Suburbs Leagues Club.
