KATIE Fischer is used to wearing designer gowns, but for one night in Newcastle she will talk up clothing-bin fashion.

Fischer has agreed to emcee the Bin Fashion event, which displays frocks that TAFE fashion students create from pre-loved Samaritans store clothing.

The actress and model stepped into the emcee role after special guest Gemma Sanderson pulled out of the fund-raiser.

Sanderson, who was crowned Australia's Next Top Model in 2005 on the TV show, has flown to Milan for work.

Fischer is becoming quite the honorary Novocastrian of late and donated her time.

She recently teamed up with Screaming Jets frontman Dave Gleeson for the reality series It Takes Two.

Fischer even jammed with The Screaming Jets in Newcastle while rehearsing for the TV show.

Bin Fashion will use local models to showcase the frocks and an overall gown will be chosen as the winner on the night.

The event, which includes a parade and dinner, is a yearly fund-raising event for the Samaritans and will be held at Wests Leagues Club on Saturday, July 29.
